If you think that the National Capital Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth is all about promoting the professional and business interests of ACG members through networking and the sharing of best practices, you’re only partly right.

Throughout the year, ACG National Capital conducts activities and events outside of our educational and useful monthly meetings, roundtables and conferences. These events are intended to bring our members together for fun and charity.

On October 15, 2012, the association will be sponsoring just such an event, our annual and highly-anticipated Golf Event.

This year’s ACG National Capital Golf Event will be taking place at the Belmont Country Club in Ashburn, VA, which is home to an 18-hole Arnold Palmer Signature golf course. The course was nominated for the Best New Private Golf Course Award by Golf Digest in its inaugural year and was rated the third most challenging golf course in Virginia by the USGA.

Following a challenging round of golf, participants are invited to attend the awards gala, during which tournament winners will be announced and prizes awarded. Both the gala and golf tournament are excellent opportunities for networking with the region’s brightest business minds. This makes the event a great forum for identifying your next deal or meeting important contacts that can help grow your company.

The ACG National Capital Golf Event isn’t all fun, games and networking, however. The tournament serves to raise money for ACG’s scholarship program.

Each year, since the program’s inception in 2006, ACG National Capital’s University University Outreach and Scholarships Committee has provided financial assistance by awarding scholarships to students from the fine business schools in the Washington metro area. These scholarships have traditionally ranged in value from $7,500 to $10,000.

The scholarships are awarded based on a wide range of criteria including academic qualifications, volunteer work and extracurricular activities. However, the applicants are mostly judged and differentiated by a personal interview with the committee. Following the interviews, the full committee decides on the scholarship winners.

The proceeds from the ACG Golf Event are the largest source of funds for the scholarships. This makes membership participation so important, and rewarding.

The chapter is still accepting registrations for foursomes and twosomes for those who would like to join us for a rousing round of golf, and an opportunity to make a student’s career aspirations a reality.
