Tim Draper is the founder and managing director of Draper Fisher Jurvestson, a large international network of venture capital funds with offices in more than 30 cities and over $4.5 billion in capital commitments.
His unique and methodical way of investing has been a cornerstone to his success and has spanned over 300 various sectors. Tim has invested in many globally-recognized brands, including: Skype, Baidu, Overture, Hotmail, Tumbleweed Communications, Preview Travel, Redgate and many more.
Tim is recognized for creating the term “viral marketing,” where he proposed and implemented an idea for a company to market itself discreetly in e-mail messages passed on by recipients like a virus. This revolutionary technique, employed by companies like Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail, was adopted as a standard marketing practice by hundreds of businesses worldwide.
Tim has launched other notable organizations, including the Draper Affiliate Network, Wasatch Ventures, Zone Ventures, Draper Atlantic, Draper Triangle, Timberline Ventures and Polaris Fund. Tim is also the Founder and Chair Emeritus for The BizWorld Foundation that develops programs that teach children about business, entrepreneurship and finance, a global board member of Endeavor and member of the board of directors of Wigix, Inc.
When Tim is not busy making quality investments, he can be seen making frequent headline appearances, including TV, radio and as a featured keynote speaker in entrepreneurial conferences worldwide. He was ranked number 52 on the list of the 100 most influential Harvard University alumni and number seven on Forbes’ Midas List.
Tim’s academic credentials include a BS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, an MBA from Harvard Business School and being named an Honorary Patron of the University Philosophical Society, Trinity College, Dublin.
