In our previous post, we discussed the MBA Cup competition, which the ACG National Capital hosts annually as a way to give students from the D.C. area’s leading MBA programs an opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world situations and compete with their rival peer institutions for a cash prize.

However, the MBA Cup isn’t the only way that ACG National Capital gives back to the business leaders and ACG members of tomorrow.

In an effort to provide financial assistance and a badge of merit to simply the best-of-the-best students in our region, ACG National Chapter awards scholarships annually to a select group of D.C.-area students.

For each of the past five years, ACG National Capital has solicited candidates from area schools to receive this scholarship. Candidates are chosen through a rigorous selection process based on their academic, athletic, and/or student achievements. In addition to the student’s GPA, consideration is given to the nominee’s written statement for being selected, a faculty member’s recommendation, and community service. Each finalist is then interviewed extensively by members of the ACG National Capital Scholarship Committee.

This year’s group of candidates was without a doubt one of the finest groups the Scholarship Committee has seen since the program began. The group was narrowed to six candidates, each of whom participated in a one-hour interview. The three selected winners of the $7,500 scholarship were all top-notch individuals. What’s more, each winner inspired a feeling among the committee that the next generation of talented business leaders is positioned for great success in the near and distant future.

We are honored to present the following group with this year’s ACG National Capital scholarships. We hope this will not only assist them financially, but also serve as a differentiator for them moving forward.

Our 2010 winners are:

  • Lizelle Pereira – MBA student at Marymount University
  • Ksenia Prokunina – Sophomore at Montgomery College
  • Anna Mayr – Junior at the University of Maryland

On behalf of ACG National Capital, I would like to congratulate these exceptional students on their accomplishments. We look forward to having them all as ACG National Capital members in the very near future.
